Gor and You (or you)

Greetings Masters;
Greetings Mistresses;
greetings slaves;

There are topics that are hard for a slave to address. There’s always the concern that someone will see a slave’s opinion as being out of place, even when it covers both Free and slave. As someone who has spent more than 10 years reading, absorbing, processing and applying Gor to her life, it’s my hope that my thoughts will be welcome and that my sincere humility will shine through.

At one time or another, we were all new to Gor. In the beginning it can be overwhelming and enthralling, and there’s a danger in getting drawn to and focusing on the heroism of certain male characters, and the tender emotionalism of slavery. Some women are instead drawn to the fiercely independent Free woman. And as we process the influx of new information, there’s a temptation to embrace only what thrills us, while leaving the more sober lessons for another day.

Speaking as a slave, in the beginning i was so drawn to the loveliness of slavery, the gracefulness, and of course the sexual freedom it allows that i immersed myself in these things; feasted on them with gluttony. Imagine the shock when i also became acquainted with the sacrifice, that even when it was inconvenient or uncomfortable i was still a slave and had to maintain my position. Being a slave isn’t about hot serves, feet warming and furring; its about introspection, learning, personal growth, pain from this growth, sacrifice and a vulnerability more marvelous and terrifying than i have the words to describe.

If there’s anything that Gor has brought home to me in blinding color is that everything has a price; especially the things that are worthwhile. Responsibility is also part of the cost of what we are given by Gor.

Though i am a slave, i am also Gorean and i hold Gor dearly; it’s inseparable from me. Though i am a slave, there’s a tendency towards impatience with those that are newly learning Gor; particularly new Free to whom i am subject. i have knowledge and understanding that will take them years to attain, and part of that knowledge will come from me, if by nothing else other than my behavior; particularly the moments that call for grace under fire. It is that knowledge, that by gracefully bearing through their learning curve that i am providing service that makes coping with the difficulties a joy.

It’s hard to watch silently things that are in opposition to my basic and my philosophical principles but often that is what i am called to do. It is my hope that those reading will be pleased to consider the thoughts i am about to offer; please know that they are offered with humility and the hope that through them, i might provide service, although non-standard, that will be of use to the Free.

New Masters and Mistresses, thank you for coming to Gor. Thank you for answering the call from within yourself to embrace Gor and Gorean ethos. Please, enjoy Gor and while enjoying, please take the time to find yourselves, your true selves and your true place in Gor. Take the time to gain your sense of self and be proud of whoever that is. This self knowledge and acceptance of who you are is more essential to your Gor experience than anything else. You cannot take from Gor everything there is to be had without first assessing yourself with brutal honesty and finding satisfaction with who you truly are, online and off. Please, give yourselves that gift.

Take time. Please don’t be in such a rush to lay claim to the pieces of Gor that initially strike your interest, rather please take the time to learn about everything Gor has to offer, discover what truly fits who you really are, not just in your heart and mind, but also in reality. There’s a beauty and freedom in being nothing more or less than who you are when you look in the mirror, and proudly living that reality.

Please also consider letting that reality be reflected in your choice of caste. If you work in retail, then consider the caste of merchants. If you are a bookkeeper, an administrator or a librarian, consider the Scribes. If you are a construction worker, in public works, an architect, or an engineer, perhaps the Builders is for you. If you are in law enforcement, or the military, then perhaps you are a Warrior. If you live a wonderful simple life growing or raising your own food, then consider being a proud Peasant.

A word to slaves or women considering slavery. i know the ache you feel to be mastered. i understand deeply how compelling the need to be owned is, to serve. But please, take your time and choose wisely who’s collar you beg for. It is wonderful to love the one that owns you, but in slavery, it is more important that the one that owns you can *master* you. It’s long been my feeling that a collar should only be begged for when you have reached the place where you are already so owned by the Master that you can do nothing else but beg him to collar you. i promise you that you will not regret waiting because worse than wearing no collar, is wearing the wrong collar.

my heartfelt thanks to my Master for allowing me to post.

Tal and greetings;

amber, as usual you hit the nail on the proverbial head. I can remember a time, when a stranger would walk into a Gorean home and say, "Tal" and while there was a cool politeness, the general response was either a 'nod' or maybe a 'good evening', that new person had to earn the respect of those around them. They had to find their place amongst Goreans and discover who they were before being truly accepted. Remember, the word for stranger and enemy are the same on Gor. That's not to say that Goreans were not willing to teach the newcomers, but you can tell someone's purpose for coming to Gor almost right off the bat. You can tell the difference between someone who is on a journey and someone who wants to take the shortcuts and get right to the furring and owning slaves.

Now, it seems to me, that one only need to walk in a room and say, "Tal" and they're 'in the club'. I just don't understand it for the life of me. Yes, I love to talk and to share what I have to offer, for those who seek it. The problem is finding the ones, who truly seek all the beauty and benefits that our beloved Gor has to offer, those who want to live Gor, not just 'do' Gor.

A person much wiser than me once said, "It's not about the destination, it's the journey."

More than 10 years ago, I set my feet on this path and I am still making new discoveries along the way, my journey is far from over but I can at least hold my head up and know that I am me and that I have chosen my path well. I wonder how many can look in the mirror and say the same? If you can, then you are on the right track, otherwise, do not give up, your journey has just begun, in time you will have a moment where it strikes you and you will say, "I have arrived".

My aha moment was when Goreans that had been around much longer than me finally said to me, "Tal Ladorria", I knew at that time, I had earned my place amongst them, that I arrived at a milestone, though my journey is still ongoing and most likely never ending. That milestone was oh so sweet.

I wish you well,
